Trace DC transit history: Transit Enthusiasts of DC hosts a variety of events about all things transit including presentations, debates, and transit field trips. Transit and overall city planning in Washington is closely shaped by the ideas of its creator, Pierre L’Enfant. Join the Ride for the Region Challenge: Nearly 40% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the DMV are accounted for by the transportation sector. Shifting trips taken by private vehicles onto public transit minimizes GHG emissions and promotes a healthier region overall. Join the Advanced Energy Group (AEG) for the Ride for the Region challenge kicking off on March 17 and ending in April. This challenge is a great way to show your support for public transit by logging your trips taken on Metro rail or Metro bus services. Expand your urban agriculture network: This Saturday, the Department of Energy and Environment is hosting their 17th annual Rooting DC day. This event is a free conference for urban gardeners that provides education about urban agriculture, cultivates health and protection of the environment, and builds community. Ward 5 Family Bike Ride: Ward 5 Family Biking hosts monthly bike rides in the DC area open to riders of all ages. With Spring on the way, enjoy the warmer weather at Ward 5 Family Biking’s March bike ride, Seeds and Spokes. The ride will start at Turkey Thicket Playground and end at Right Proper Brookland where there will be giveaways and an opportunity to purchase snow cones for all and discounted beers for adult bikers.
