FRA presents revised Union Station redevelopment plans

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) released a revised plan to redevelop Union Station, removing a previously proposed above-ground parking structure and prioritizing bus, bike, and pedestrian access. The project still has a completion date of around 2040, but federal leaders hope to expedite some federal funding and encourage regional funding to speed up that process.  (Luz Lazo / Post)  

DC Council to decide future of K Street Transitway Tuesday

The DC Council will vote this week on whether to move forward with a project to overhaul a mile-long stretch of K Street NW, which has garnered controversy after bike lanes were nixed from the project. Some councilmembers say money for the transitway could be better spent elsewhere, such as restoring DC Circulator routes proposed to be eliminated in the mayor’s budget or increasing support for housing programs.  (Luz Lazo / Post)  

Prince George’s County Council proposes new spending to boost bike and pedestrian safety

Last week, the Prince George’s County Council discussed using federal grant dollars to fund road safety improvements like building better bike lanes and sidewalks. This would mark an 89 percent increase in funding for safe streets compared to last year. Eighth grader dies after he was hit by a driver in Germantown

A 14-year-old Germantown boy died after being struck by a motorist while crossing a street last week. The motorist was a local high school student, and police are still seeking information about the case.  (Ginny Bixby / MoCo360)  

Proposed Arlington zoning changes would allow podcast studios by right

The Arlington County Council is weighing proposals that would drop permitting requirements necessary for podcast studios to set up shop in the county’s office buildings and ease zoning requirements for research and development space without a variance or code change.
